Changing of the Guard
We said goodbye to President Fitz and welcomed President Derek at the annual Changing of the Guard.
Changing of the Guard was a day of fun, reflection, awards and an inspirational look toward the future. We started the meeting by inducting two new members: Sheila Miller from Care Access and Erin Hardesty from The United Way of Greater Lima, and Jessica Trinko exchanged her red badge for her blue badge. Congratulations, ladies! Then we drew the winner of the Jerry Lucas autographed OSU photos; congratulations to winner Greg Mauk!

Outgoing Lima Rotary Foundation President Demi Burden summed up the year by announcing that the Foundation awarded nearly $26,000 in grants and $29,000 in scholarships. She also thanked outgoing board members Adah Ellerbrock and Adam Stolly. Incoming board president Russ Decker thanked Demi for her service and welcomed new board members Chris Hardesty, Craig Kupferberg and Berlin Carroll.

Jeff Fitzgerald then took the mic to reflect on the past year and some of the club's big accomplishments, including breaking ground on the $3.8 million Greater Lima Region Park and Amphitheater, raising more than $11,000 from the Jay Begg Reverse Raffle, reaching the club's $5,000 PolioPlus goal, and increasing membership to 144. Thank you, Fitz for your outstanding leadership and a tremendous year for the Lima Rotary Club.

We recognized Dick Riggs, a 55 year member of the Lima Rotary Club who passed in October. We also recognized long term members with more than 40 years of service:
Chuck Leidy - 59 years
Bob Komminsk - 51 years
Chuck Butts - 50 years
Dick Schroeder - 48 years
Bill Timmermeister - 47 years
David Steiner - 47 years
Fred Seelenbinder - 46 years
Larry Webb - 43 years
Frank Guagenti - 40 years
Phil Trueblood - 40 years

Five members were recognized with the annual Avenues of Service awards for outstanding service to the club and our community. They are:
Rex Perry Club Service Award - Demi Burden
John Rudolph Community Service Award - Katy Page
Harold Goodnight International Service Award - Dave Frost
Henry Wemmer Vocational Service Award - Richard Warren
Peter Hulsken Youth Service Award - Joe Kitchen
Thank you for your commitment to Service Above Self!

President Fitz then thanked departing Lima Rotary Club board members Carol Buettner, Andy Farley and John Ficorilli for their service and President Derek welcomed new board members Jeff Unterbrink, Tim Stanford and Demi Burden.

Then it was time for the presidents' pin exchange and remarks from President Derek. He says he will concentrate on fellowship and service
during his year as president and will keep the members engaged in achieving the club's goals.
He plans to give more details about his year during his first meeting on July 11.

Outgoing secretary Rita Brown was honored for nearly ten years of dedicated service to the Lima Rotary Club. She will remain as the club's executive secretary.
Then it was time for a hilarious roast of President Fitz from Demi Burden & Lesley Fry, including these bloopers from WLIO. Enjoy!

Golf Outing
Join us for the Rex Perry Memorial Golf Outing on August 17 and support our scholarship fund.
Please join us for a fun day of golf, games, and Rotarian camaraderie. This year marks the 22nd anniversary of the annual Rex Perry Memorial Golf Outing. It will be held on Wednesday, August 17th at Hidden Creek Golf Course with a rain date of Wednesday, August 24th
Last year we had 29 teams competing and raised $39,910, all of which went to benefit the Rotary Foundation Scholarship Fund. The Rotary Memorial Scholarship Fund selects persons who live or work in Allen County who are in pursuit of a degree or certification and will attend a school or college in Allen County. The intent of the scholarship is to encourage Allen County employees and residents to work and plan for their futures within our county. As of April 2022, the Rotary Memorial Scholarship Fund has helped 1,125 adults to continue their education and to pursue their dream. These scholarships total over $852,250. Degrees or certifications can be achieved at the Apollo Career Center (Adult Education), Bluffton University, Rhodes State College, The Ohio State University at Lima and the University of Northwestern Ohio. All residents who live in and employees who work in Allen County are eligible.
