Changing of the Guard was a day of fun, reflection, awards and an inspirational look toward the future. We started the meeting by inducting two new members: Sheila Miller from Care Access and Erin Hardesty from The United Way of Greater Lima, and Jessica Trinko exchanged her red badge for her blue badge. Congratulations, ladies! Then we drew the winner of the Jerry Lucas autographed OSU photos; congratulations to winner Greg Mauk! Outgoing Lima Rotary Foundation President Demi Burden summed up the year by announcing that the Foundation awarded nearly $26,000 in grants and $29,000 in scholarships. She also thanked outgoing board members Adah Ellerbrock and Adam Stolly. Incoming board president Russ Decker thanked Demi for her service and welcomed new board members Chris Hardesty, Craig Kupferberg and Berlin Carroll. Jeff Fitzgerald then took the mic to reflect on the past year and some of the club's big accomplishments, including breaking ground on the $3.8 million Greater Lima Region Park and Amphitheater, raising more than $11,000 from the Jay Begg Reverse Raffle, reaching the club's $5,000 PolioPlus goal, and increasing membership to 144. Thank you, Fitz for your outstanding leadership and a tremendous year for the Lima Rotary Club. We recognized Dick Riggs, a 55 year member of the Lima Rotary Club who passed in October. We also recognized long term members with more than 40 years of service: Chuck Leidy - 59 years Bob Komminsk - 51 years Chuck Butts - 50 years Dick Schroeder - 48 years Bill Timmermeister - 47 years David Steiner - 47 years Fred Seelenbinder - 46 years Larry Webb - 43 years Frank Guagenti - 40 years Phil Trueblood - 40 years Five members were recognized with the annual Avenues of Service awards for outstanding service to the club and our community. They are: Rex Perry Club Service Award - Demi Burden John Rudolph Community Service Award - Katy Page Harold Goodnight International Service Award - Dave Frost Henry Wemmer Vocational Service Award - Richard Warren Peter Hulsken Youth Service Award - Joe Kitchen Thank you for your commitment to Service Above Self! President Fitz then thanked departing Lima Rotary Club board members Carol Buettner, Andy Farley and John Ficorilli for their service and President Derek welcomed new board members Jeff Unterbrink, Tim Stanford and Demi Burden. Then it was time for the presidents' pin exchange and remarks from President Derek. He says he will concentrate on fellowship and service during his year as president and will keep the members engaged in achieving the club's goals. He plans to give more details about his year during his first meeting on July 11. Outgoing secretary Rita Brown was honored for nearly ten years of dedicated service to the Lima Rotary Club. She will remain as the club's executive secretary. Then it was time for a hilarious roast of President Fitz from Demi Burden & Lesley Fry, including these bloopers from WLIO. Enjoy!
