The Scoop - June 4, 2018
Ohio BWC is working to create a culture of safety in Ohio workplaces.
The goal for the Ohio Bureau of Workers Compensation is zero injuries. That goal is a way off, but BWC Administrator Sarah Morrison told the Lima Rotary Club that claims have been going down steadily over the past several years. In 2016 there were 114,600 cases, or 2.7 injuries for every 100 employees - .5% below the national average. Morrison attributes the drop to the BWC's aggressive safety program. This includes giving grants to companies and governments to purchase or fabricate safety equipment, training classes, safety consultations, health services, and a safety video/book library. The BWC has also been giving employers rebates; the one that will be sent in August is 83% of the employers' premium. Morrison says they are able to do this because the BWC has been earning more than double its target investments.
Also at Monday's meeting, we welcomed two new members, Marin Harbur, a data analyst, and insurance agent Corey Frazer.
