Here are the highlights of the October 10 board meeting.
Call to Order                                                      Tracie Sanchez
President Sanchez called the meeting together at 11:30 AM with the following members present:  Jill Ackerman, Dave Frost, Jed Metzger, Catheryn Sarno, Paul Swartz, Jeff Tracy, and Ann Decker.   Also attending was Rita Brown, Club Secretary.

Attendance report
Brown shared the attendance report for the month of September 2017.  The month ended with 170 members and 47.25% attendance.  Six new members joined the club on Monday October 9, 2017 and three are resigning this month. 
 
President’s Report                                          Tracie Sanchez
Abilities Field Donor Celebration & Ribbon Cutting. 
A donor appreciation and ribbon cutting celebration will be held Thursday October 12, 2017 from 4:30 – 6:30.  The event will begin at 4:30 with the Ribbon Cutting Ceremony being held at 5 PM.  A cookout at the field will follow.  The Public is invited to attend. 
 
West Ohio Food Bank opportunity 
Sanchez met with Executive Director of the Food Bank Linda Hamilton.  The Rotary Club will hold a staples drive each week at the club meetings during the month of November.  The kick-off will be the last Monday in October.  Also Club Members and family members are invited to volunteer at the Food Bank.  Anyone over ten years of age can participate.  The Bath Interact Club is planning to volunteer.  Sign-up sheets will be available for those wishing to participate. 
 
District Governor Joint Board meeting Nov. 6th
The next Rotary Club Board of Directors meeting will be a joint meeting with the Rotary Foundation Board and with District Governor Deb Cheney.  The joint meeting will be held Monday November 6th at the Veterans Memorial Civic and Convention Center starting at 10:30 AM and will be completed by the time of the regular Club Meeting.  After the meeting, Sanchez will provide a tour of Lima Rotary Club’s Community Projects for the District Governor. 
 
President Elect ReportPaul Swartz
Swartz indicated October 23, 2017 is World Polio Day.  Lima Rotarian Dr Susan Hubbell will speak and will bring one of her patients who was a former polio victim.  Mayor Berger will present a World Polio Day Proclamation at the Club Meeting and the End Polio Flag will be flying in the Square.  Pizza for Polio, prepared by the Milano Café, will be served for lunch.  A Polio Plus Box to collect spare change from members for Polio Plus will be placed at the Sergeant-At-Arms Desk. 
 
Vice President ReportKen Dysert – presented by Sanchez
Fall Blood Clinic Saturday November 4,, 2017.
The large Rotary inflatable balloon will be placed outside the back doors of the Center which is the entrance site to the Blood Clinic.  Applications will be available on-line on the Rotary website to allow those attending to complete the applications before attending. 
 
Board Reports
Special Needs Christmas PartyDr. Susan Hubbell – presented by Sanchez
The event will be held Saturday December 9, 2017 at Shawnee United Methodist Church on Zurmehly Road.  The first meeting of the Committee will be Monday October 16, 2017.
 
Membership ideas                                           David Frost
Frost stated the Membership Committee continues to meet.  They placed sign-up sheets on tables and received a few leads which they are following up with.  Frost stated they will continue to work with new members to move them to their Blue Badges. 
 
Presidential citation. 
For the fiscal year 2016-2017, the Lima Rotary Club, the UNOH Rotarac Club and the Bath Interact Club all received Presidential Citations from Rotary International.  To-date the citations have not been received.  District Governor Deb Cheney will have them in two weeks. 
 
Riverwalk signage                                                            Anne Decker
Decker reported the new signs will be completed by Friday October 13, 2017.  Decker will work with City Parks Director Ric Stolly to have them erected in the three selected locations along the Riverwalk. 
 
Dictionary Distribution/ 4-way speech/essay       Jill Ackerman
Ackerman stated Rotarian Dave Cockerel is in charge and will do the distribution to all schools on the same day – Tuesday October 24, 2017.
 
Essay and Speech
Ackerman will meet in November with the Allen County School Superintendents.  At that time, they will select a date for the contest. The Rotary Board will partner equally with the Scholarship Committee and prizes will be awarded this year in the following amounts:

Sarno made a motion to approve the amounts as stated.  Frost seconded the motion.  Board approved.
 
Salvation Army bell ringing                                            Presented by Sanchez
Rotarian Drew Fields is currently organizing the event which will be held Saturday December 16, 2017. The Rotary Club will man the kettles at the Lima Mall.  The event will be expanded to include ToysRUs and perhaps other locations. 
 
Books, Brews, Blues/Ghost Tour/Husky Tour/     Cat Sarno
Sarno reported the Books, Brews and Blues event will be held Wednesday night October 11, 2017.
The Ghost Tour is sold out and the Husky Tour is sold out with a few people on the waiting list.

Resignations- Janice Quatman, Thom Holmes/Jeff Gast                 
Resignations have been received from Janice Quatman, Thomas Holmes and Jeff Gast.  Tracy made a motion to approve the resignations with regret.  Metzger seconded the motion.  Board approved. 
 
Application to be reinstated.
Lima Rotarian Jon Rockhold resigned in September 2017 but has asked to be reinstated.  Tracy made a motion to approve the reinstatement and Swartz seconded the motion.  Board approved.
 
Adjournment
There being no further business, Tracy made a motion to adjourn the meeting at 12:48 PM.  Frost seconded the motion.  Board approved.
