Here are the highlights from the August 9th board meeting.
Call to Order                                                                                                               Derek Stemen
Stemen called the meeting to order at 11:39 A.M. with the following board members present:
Derek Stemen, Jeff Fitzgerald, Lesley Fry, Joel Mengerink, Elizabeth Brown-Ellis, Andy Wannemacher, Keith Horner, Tim Stanford and Treasurer Tracey Regula. Also, Secretary Anne Decker, Amy Ricker and Dan Best were present.
 
Secretary’s Report                                                                                                     Anne Decker
Approval of the July 12, 2022 Board Minutes
Mengerink made a motion to approve the minutes of the July 12, 2022 meeting as submitted.  Brown-Ellis seconded the motion.  Board approved.
 
Attendance report for July 2022 
No new members joined the club and no members resigned.  July attendance was 42.54%. The month ended with 143 active members and 4 honorary members.

Scholarship Presentation
The scholarship committee will present 14 scholarships at the August 15 meeting.
 
Career Mentoring Program
Stemen was contacted by Doug Arthur of Transform Consulting to see if the Lima Rotary Club would help mentor 10th graders in the Lima City Schools. The board did not want to participate through a third party, but requested that Stemen contact Superintendent Jill Ackerman and see if the club could be of help to the district in another way. Stemen will reach out to Ackerman and determine what the district’s needs are.
 
Social Meeting
The next social meeting will be August 18 at Outskirts brewery.
 
Amy Ricker
Lima Rotary bookkeeper Amy Ricker will attend board meetings so she can stay informed.
 
District Grants
The District 6600 grant window is open. Clubs that attend the August 27 Grants Seminar will be given preferred status. The club’s Empowering Girls Committee is considering applying for a grant. Fry will recommend to the committee that they select one core area of focus and apply for a grant for that specific purpose.
 
Membership Initiatives
Stemen stated that he has begun new membership initiatives, including contacting donors to the Greater Lima Region Park and Amphitheater who are not members of the club and inviting them to join. Decker has designed business cards that can be passed out to prospective members, inviting them to a club meeting. She will also design “Miss You” cards to be sent to current members who are not attending meetings. Unterbrink made a motion to print 250 of each. Wannemacher seconded the motion. Board approved. Horner offered to print them at Apollo Career Center. Decker will send artwork to him.
 
New Member Orientation
Four people have applied for membership in the club. Orientation is scheduled for August 31.
 
Kentucky Flood Relief
District 6600 has contacted the club about participating in flood relief efforts for Kentucky. We will pass the bucket at Monday’s meeting and donate the proceeds to the fund Rotary has set up for this.

Empowering Girls Committee                                                                                    Lesley Fry
Nothing additional to report other than the discussion outlined in the District Grants section.
 
PolioPlus                                                                                                                      Keith Horner
Horner stated that work has not begun on the 2022-2023 PolioPlus fundraisers. It was suggested that all fines and happy dollars go to PolioPlus. Stemen will check the club’s bylaws to see if the use of those funds is specified and report back to the board.
 
Golf Outing                                                                                                                 Andy Wannemacher
40 hole sponsors have been sold and 26 teams have signed up for the Rex Perry Memorial Golf Outing to be held August 17. Wannemacher requested that Decker send an email asking club members to volunteer.
 
Jerry Lucas Sports Memorabilia Raffle.
Fitzgerald stated that following today’s meeting he is sending Jerry Lucas a check for $1,310, his share of the proceeds from the sports memorabilia raffle. The club’s $1,310 share of the raffle will go into the general fund.
 
Treasurer’s Report                                                                                                     Tracey Regula
The board thanked Dan Best for his work as club treasurer and for helping Tracey Regula transition into the role and thanked Regula for taking over the duties.
Regula reviewed information from the financial reports. The club’s total income year to date is $27,885.01, slightly above the same period last year. The club’s YTD expenses are $10,554.36, leaving the club with a net income of $17,330.65, up from $6,985.30 from the same period last year. Fitzgerald made a motion to approve the treasurer’s report. Wannemacher seconded the motion. Board approved.
 
New Business
Applications
The club has received new members applications from: Captain Charity Bender – Salvation Army, Amanda Moonen – Golden Reserve, Holly Metzger – Bluffton University.
Horner made a motion to approve the applications. Regula seconded the motion. Board approved.

Resignations
Andi Ostendorf and Bob McPheron have submitted their resignations. Regula made a motion to approve the resignations with regret. Fry seconded the motion. Board approved.

Fry made a motion to adjourn the meeting at 12:55 P.M.
