Here are the highlights from the January 9 board meeting.
Call to Order                                                                                                               Lesley Fry
President Lesley Fry called the meeting to order at 11:41 A.M. with the following board members present:
Lesley Fry, Richard Warren, Demi Burden, Elizabeth Brown-Ellis, Russ Decker, Tim Stanford and Jeff Unterbrink. Also, Treasurer Tracey Regula, Secretary Anne Decker and bookkeeper Amy Ricker were present.
 
Secretary’s Report                                                                                                     Lesley Fry
Approval of the December 12, 2023 Board Meeting Minutes
Russ Decker made a motion to approve the minutes of the December 12, 2023 board meeting as submitted. Brown-Ellis seconded the motion. Board approved.
 
Attendance Report for December 2023 
Two new members joined the club and two members resigned in December. December attendance was 40.642%. The month ended with 147 active members and 3 honorary members. 
 
President’s Report                                                                                                     Lesley Fry
PolioPlus
PolioPlus Chair Keith Horner will announce a PolioPlus raffle at the January 22 club meeting. The raffle will run through February 26. Rotary apparel will also be sold during that time to reach the club’s PolioPlus fundraising goal of $3,000.
 
Civic Center Safety Concerns
Fry, Burden, Warren, Russ Decker and Anne Decker met with Civic Center Director Abe Ambroza and Board President David Grimm to discuss safety concerns. Two members and one guest fell during or following meetings in 2023. Ambroza and Grimm assured board members that they will make sure a safety checklist is used to look for potential problems prior to each meeting. They are updating the Civic Center’s safety policy and will share it with the club.
 
Corporate Memberships
The committee reviewing corporate members is meeting in January and is expected to have recommendations to share with the board at its February meeting.
 
Board Nominations
The Lima Rotary Club is taking nominations for board members for a three year term from July 2024-June 2027. At least two thirds of the candidates must be willing to move up the leadership chairs if elected.
 
Annual Audit
The board will recruit club members interested in performing a regular audit of the club’s books.
 
On Our Sleeves
Ohio’s five Rotary districts are partnering with and fundraising for On Our Sleeves, a movement for children’s mental health. Fry will ask club members if they have interest in participating in this program.

Christmas Extravaganza Recap                                                                                               Lesley Fry
Russ Decker reported that the annual Christmas Extravaganza netted more than $7,200 for the Lima Rotary Foundation.
 
Treasurer’s Report                                                                                                     Tracey Regula
Regula shared information from the Profit and Loss Statement and Balance Sheet. The club’s total income through December 31, 2023 is $55,871.95. Total expenses are $54,180.99. Net income is $1,690.96. Warren moved to approve the Treasurer’s Report. Burden seconded the motion. Board approved.

New Member Applications
New members applications were received from Tyson Goings, Assistant Superintendent of the Allen County Board of DD and Jessica Gavin, who is self employed. Burden made a motion to approve the applications. Russ Decker seconded the motion. Board approved.
 
Resignations
Jared Walsh
Erin Hardesty
Warren made a motion to approve the resignations with regret. Unterbrink seconded the motion. Board approved. Board members gave special recognition to Walsh for the many years he dedicated to the Lima Rotary Foundation as its treasurer.

 
Motion To Adjourn
Regula made a motion to adjourn the meeting. Burden seconded the motion. Board approved.
President Fry adjourned the meeting at 1:00 P.M.
