The Allen County Genealogical Society can help you trace your family's history.
The Allen County Genealogical Society's mission is to create and build interest in preserving and collecting genealogical and historical records relating to the early settlers of Allen County. Its president, Donna Wannemacher, showed us interesting maps of Ohio dating back to 1803 when the state had only 10 counties or regions. By the 1820 map, Allen County had been created from what had been "Area 9" attached to Logan County, and "Area 7" attached to Shelby County. The 1830 census showed Allen County as having 2 townships, Bath and Amanda, with 96 households. But it grew quickly. The 1840 census showed 13 townships and 2 towns, Lima and Gallatin, with over 1,500 households. The townships were: Amanda, Auglaize, Bath, Clay, Duchouquet, German, Goshen, Jackson, Marion, Moulton, Perry, Pusheta and Shawnee. The Allen County Genealogical Society can help you trace your family's history, and possibly certify it as a First Family, which had a direct ancestor living in Allen County by 1840. If you'd like to near more, Donna encouraged us to attend their Family History and Genealogy Fair on September 16 at the Allen County Museum.

Also at Monday's meeting, we inducted six new members into the Lima Rotary Club: retired Bath teacher Mike Leidy, All Service Glass President Ann Welly, Chamber of Commerce Director of Programs Julie Klingler, Farm Credit Account Specialist Jodi Addis, Webb Insurance Agent Michael Sarno and Bath Schools Superintendent Mike Estes. Please make them welcome!
