Legacy Arts is collaborating to foster the growth of culture and creativity in downtown Lima.
A group of artists and business people is working together on an arts district in downtown Lima. Legacy Arts is located at 230 N. Main Street and includes Alter Ego Comics, Purple Feet Wine Boutique, NOW Marketing Group and Legacy Sound Studio. Marc Bowker told us the the group traveled around the country to get ideas. "We went to Lansing, Grand Rapids, and Asheville, North Carolina looking at art districts and multi-use buildings that were using retail, creative space, co-working space, that sort of thing. We're investing in not only our business, other people's businesses and downtown lima because we believe in the potential." Alisa McPheron added, "We're all on the same mission to make downtown Lima a cool, thriving artist community. We believe in that." Omar Zahery says part of the goal is to keep young people in Lima. "We're tying to work with like minded people to evolve our creative economy. So much of the time, people are like when it it time for me to get out of here, and we say, you don't." Bowker says there will be plenty of events to attend, including the upcoming Legacy Arts Street Party on August 7 in the 200 block of North Main, and concerts in their Live at the LAB event space.
