Downtown Lima is on the grow.
This is an exciting time for Downtown Lima, according to Executive Director Shaunna Basinger. She told us that there are a number of new arts, shopping and dining opportunities in the central business district including the Greater Lima Region Park and Amphitheater, Rhodes State College's Borra Center for Health Sciences, The Central District, Legacy Arts, and much more. She says Downtown Lima is working to create and maintain a dynamic, vital, and sustainable downtown in three main ways: promotion, design and business enhancement. Promotion includes events such as Holiday Fest on December 4, First Fridays, social media promotions, lantern tours and the Shop Small campaign. Design encompasses beautification efforts like the downtown planters and holiday decorations. Business enhancement provides support for downtown businesses including small business loans and advocacy.
So what's coming up for Downtown Lima? New holiday decorations which will be going up soon; continued promotions and community engagement opportunities; renewed focus and attention to beautification efforts such as lighting, flowers, holiday decorations; helping to keep the public informed on upcoming changes and construction in the downtown; working to educate the public of resources available to them, new ways that they can support our local businesses, and help them make the connection between a vibrant downtown, a thriving local economy, and an improved quality of life that it would bring.
