The Lima Rotary Community Stage and Park get two big contributions!
Mercy Health - St. Rita's Medical Center and Alberta Lee have each contributed $50,000 to the Lima Rotary Community Stage and Park. We have raised more than $800,000 toward the park and amphitheater we are building at the corner of Spring and Union Streets. Site clearing is almost complete and we hope to break ground in 2020.
Mercy Health - St. Rita's is also beginning a big building project. They are constructing a $15 million Graduate Medical Education Center at the corner of Market & Collett Streets. The 48,000 square foot building will feature simulation labs and classrooms to train physicians, nurses, medical staff, first responders and others. Dr. Kevin Casey told us that this will help address the predicted shortage of more than 100,000 physicians over the next five years. He also says it's a good economic development tool for our region since physicians who train here will put down roots here and want to stay here. The groundbreaking is October 28. The facility is expected to open in 2020.
Also at Monday's meeting, we welcomed our newest member, Dr. Cynthia Spiers, the Interim President at Rhodes State College, and we learned that David Hartman died Friday. He had been a member of the Lima Rotary Club for more than 40 years. Our deepest sympathies go out to his family.
