Legacy Arts is working to bring an artistic vibe to downtown Lima.
Legacy Arts is collaboration of four downtown Lima businesses whose vision is to foster the growth of art, commerce and creativity in downtown Lima. The businesses - Alter Ego Comics, The Meeting Place, Rustgaze Records and Shop For Good - are all housed in Alter Ego Comics' building on North Main Street. Alter Ego owner Marc Bowker told us that their mission is to support and encourage artists and entrepreneurs to stay local and to provide unique experiences and events in downtown Lima. They've already held their first event, a street party on North West Street with 20 vendors, food trucks and three bands. "To see the diversity of people that attended, to see our vendors, our local artists and our local bands, seeing people have a great time, dance and smile was fantastic." Legacy Arts also plans to hold events next door to the Legacy Arts Building (LAB) in the park that CASA is building. They are building a recording studio and indoor performance space in the LAB which should be completed in 2020. After that, Bowker says they plan to develop the second floor of the LAB for art and retail space. and provide mentoring and a platform for local entrepreneurs and artists.
We also heard from former Lima Rotarian Billie Dray who is now the Development Director for Young Life International. She promoted the Developing Global Leaders Program which works to provide leadership training to young people around the globe and to help them attend college.
