Lima Rotary Club's global grant is promoting WASH in Schools.
The Global Grant (GG) which Lima Rotary developed with Usula Rotario in San Pedro Sula, Honduras incorporated many of the research objectives of The Rotary Foundation (TRF). The training offered with our GG incorporated sustainability concepts which were part of TRF long term policy development to motivate clubs in two Areas of Focus.  These are Basic Education and Literacy, as well as Water and Sanitation.

Usula Rotarios focus on their community changed following the training necessary for our GG.

Usula has elected to participate in a new community development program called WASH in Schools. They along with 3 other clubs in San Pedro Sula have applied and were accepted to do a community assessment of the 54 schools in San Pedro to teach the new concepts of hygiene and sanitation.  They were awarded a $10,000 to do the assessment.

The activity has a name now called “What is the WASH in Schools Target Challenge?”

The WASH in Schools Target Challenge is a pilot program created to motivate Rotary clubs to develop sustainable water, sanitation, hygiene (collectively referred to as WASH), and education projects using the expertise and resources available through two of Rotary’s areas of focus: basic education and literacy, and water and sanitation(disease prevention).
The program will focus on measuring the impact that WASH and basic education and literacy initiatives have on school attendance. Rotary and UNICEF will recognize Rotary clubs and schools whose WASH in Schools projects achieve the benchmarks outlined below.
During the pilot phase, the program will run through July 2020 in five countries, all chosen for their strong, active involvement in school sanitation efforts: Belize, Guatemala, Honduras, India, and Kenya.

All of the contributors to our global grant can be proud of the resounding contribution that our grant has made to progressive thinking with the clubs in San Pedro Sula.
